Dialogue for the Future programme

Dialogue for the Future is a process started in 1992 by a number of national foundations to promote democracy, tolerance, participation and solidarity among young people in Europe. Some foundations have been involved in this project from the beginning, but others gave joined them later. In each participating country, a national process is carried out with young people who engage in activities and projects centered on Dialogue's ideals. Each foundations nominates a coordinator and an animator. The coordinators is responsible for the national process, the contacts to the other foundations and technical aspects. The animator is also involved in the preparation process. The animators and coordinators are meeting two times before the conference to discuss and organize details of the programme. Every two years, each country sends 10 representatives to an international youth gathering in order to present the results of their work and discuss the principles of Dialogue. During the youth gathering each group of about twenty participants is led by two animators. After the first youth gathering in Brussels in 1993, young Europeans met in Warsaw in 1995, in Turku in 1997 an din Berlin in 1999.

In 2001 the youth Gathering was organised by the Hannah Arendt Association in Szentendre with the topic of Building Bridges. We would like to express that we can and should build bridges between people and it takes easier to have bridges also between countries in all of Europe.
